Mistletoe, Christmas rom-coms, winter walks: cuffing season is well and truly underway. But it’s safe to say that Christmas isn’t the easiest time of year – especially if you’re single. Enough of us have experienced awkward conversations over the dinner table, with nagging grandparents or distant aunties asking ‘How’s the love life going?’ It’s exhausting.

But if you are looking for love, it might just be that you’re literally in the wrong place. A new study of Match.com data by OnlineCasinos.co.uk has revealed the best cities in the UK to find love this festive season, and the results might be surprising.

To compile the ranking, analysts selected 25 cities with the largest population sizes in the UK. Then, they calculated the average ‘romance’ scores based on population sizes, the number of dating events and the number of single people on Match.com between the ages 18 and 40.

Surprisingly, London didn’t make the cut. The study found that Cambridge is the place where singles are most likely to find love this festive season, with a total ‘romance’ score of 8.55 out of ten. The northern cities of Liverpool and Manchester came second and third respectively, with Manchester actually scoring the highest overall in terms of dating app users.

Worcester and Chelmsford followed in the top five, followed by Norwich, Brighton, Southampton, Nottingham, and Glasgow in the rest of the top ten. Check out the full results below.
