Roger Deakin, for those not in-the-know, was an author, artist and environmentalist. One of the UK’s most beloved writers about nature, he’s credited with loads of stuff, from being one of the first to champion wild swimming to opening the eyes of many Brits to the wonders of the Great British Outdoors.

Deakin famously lived and worked in a Suffolk cottage called Walnut Tree Farm, which also featured heavily in his books. When he bought the property in 1968, it was half-ruined – but over the decades he restored and rebuilt it, filling the farm with plenty of quirks and charms.

And now, excitingly, Walnut Tree Farm is on the market. Sat in the middle of 12 acres of meadow, the Grade II-listed property dates back to the 1500s and now features several outbuildings including an A-framed barn and railway carriage.

Walnut Tree Farm is exactly the sort of place where you’d imagine Deakin would have felt right at home. The place is filled with earthy stuff like brick floors, dormer windows, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and deep wooden roof beams.

It’s a wondrous sort of place. Here are a few more pictures of Walnut Tree Farm.

While the farm might seem like it’s in the middle of nowhere, it’s closer to civilisation than you might think. Diss railway station is just ten minutes away by car, while it’s under an hour’s drive to Norwich, Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds.

All this could be yours for £1.5 million. If you’d like to find out more about Walnut Tree Farm, see the official listing on Inigo here.

Did you see that an abandoned gun tower off the Kent coast is now on the market?
