Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or simply looking for a scenic spot to enjoy a cuppa, a new Swansea attraction is one to have on your radar.

Construction of Europe’s first ever Skyline Luge is well and truly underway in Kilvey Hill. Plans for the mega new multi-million pound attraction were approved by Swansea Council way back in March 2025.

The attraction, called The Skyline Swansea Project, is set to feature an enormous gondola-style lift that covers a one-mile stretch from the historic Hafod-Morfa Copperworks to the top of the hill. Thrill-seekers will be able to ride a three-wheeled ‘luge’ cart down a snaking track from the top of the hill. The carts are essentially a hybrid between a go-kart and a toboggan, propelling you downhill using gravity rather than a motor.

The attraction will also include a children’s adventure playground, a sky swing, cycling trails, a restaurant and a separate bar area – all with sweeping views of Swansea Bay. The promotional video for the attraction shows the karting tracks illuminated by neon lights, suggesting it could be used at night-time.

The project is the brainchild of Skyline Enterprises, which is based in New Zealand. The Swansea attraction would mark the company’s first site in Europe. In a recent update, the company revealed that work had started on the base station for the gondola as well as on Kilvey Hill, where the groundworks for the luge tracks had begun. It’s expected to cost £49 million, £10 million of which as been committed by the local council.

The Skyline Enterprises website states their vision is to ‘open up Kilvey Hill for everyone to enjoy, bringing accessible tourism to the heart of Swansea’, adding it’s a place where ‘the sweeping views of Swansea Bay, Gower, and Bannau Brycheiniog can be enjoyed by all.’ According to the stats on the website, it is going to be a mega project all-round. The organisers state that the cable car length is going to stretch a whopping one mile, while the average luge track ride length is 1012m.

Kilvey Hill is already known for being an adventure-lover’s paradise thanks to its mountain biking trails. With a 193-metre hill with impressive views of the city centre, Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsula, it’s also popular with hikers.

Skyline Swansea is set to open in 2028.
