When you think of beach festivals in the UK, Boardmasters in Newquay is probably the one that most quickly comes to mind. But did you know there’s another Cornish bash that has been around for ten years?

Over the last decade Tunes in the Dunes in Perranporth has attracted the likes of Tom Jones, the Kooks, James Bay, the Vaccines and Scouting for Girls. Now, it plans to expand and bring a new music festival to Swansea, named Tunes on the Bay.

Organisers submitted a proposal to Swansea Council last month and if it gets the green light the festival will take place from Friday, May 3 to Sunday, May 5 2024.

The planning application claims that the fest will have a maximum capacity of 9,999, which is double the size of the OG Cornish event but still much smaller than Boardmasters. We don’t know who could be taking to the stage yet but we do know that there will be local musicians, DJs, food stalls and a bar. General admission is predicted to cost £70.

It’s not the first addition to the Tunes Festival family. In recent years the organisers have introduced Tunes in the Park in the grounds of Port Eliot Estate in Cornwall, Tunes On The Sands at Blackpool Sands, south Devon, and Tunes in the Castle in Powderham Castle, Exeter. This one will be their first in Wales.
