London is home to world-famous sculptures, era-defining paintings and historical artefacts that culture vultures travel far and wide just to catch a glimpse of. But why the heck should the capital get all the fun?

The MuMo (aka Mobile Museum) is on a mission to take art beyond big cities and make it accessible to those who typically don’t get a chance to see it. So, at the end of the month, some of the finest artworks from London’s Tate Collection will be hopping on the Art Explora Mobile Museum and visiting communities across the Midlands and the north.

Pieces by 22 artists including Andy Warhol, Cornelia Parker, Damien Hirst, David Hockney and Vanessa Bell will stop by Nuneaton & Bedworth in Warwickshire, Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, Walsall in the West Midlands, Stoke-on-Trent, Wigan, Rotherham in South Yorkshire and Tarporley in Cheshire. Visitors can expect to see a mixture of paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and film on display.

Tate and Art Explora ran a similar scheme in 2023, bringing the artworks from the gallery’s ‘Radical Landscapes’ exhibition to schools and communities in the Liverpool City Region. This year’s tour will launch on Friday, February 23 and you can find out more on the official Tate x MuMo website here.

Art on the move

2024 is the year of art on the road. As it happens the National Gallery is also heading off on a UK wide tour this year. As part of celebrations for the institution’s 200th birthday, 12 of the its finest paintings from the likes of Constable and Monet are loaned out to venues around the country. For more amazing art outside of the capital, we recommend paying a visit to some of the best galleries in Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester or Bristol

Did you see that Birmingham is getting an Ozzy Osborne musuem?

Plus: seven English counties will soon get ‘lightning fast’ broadband, thanks to a £5 billion project.
