Are you a fan of perfectly golden battered fish, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside chips, and tangy tartar sauce? Of course you are, because unless you are allergic (sad), or claim you just ‘don’t like them’ (probably lying), everybody loves fish and chips.
Now, the 10 best chippies in all of the UK have been crowned. These meccas of frying have been o-fish-ally named as the top in the country by the National Fish and Chip Awards 2026.
The annual chippy awards, organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) have just revealed the shortlist of the top 10 for 2026. This comes a month after the awards revealed the top 20 chippies for 2026, which have now been whittled down by half by the expert judges.
Still in the running to take home the coveted takeaway of the year prize are chippies from Durham, Essex, York and Aberdeenshire. Surprisingly, no chippies from the coastal regions of Wales, Devon, or Cornwall made it into this year’s shortlist. But one London establishment, Brockley’s Rock, did make the cut.
Last year’s winner, Yarm Road Fish & Chips in Darlington, was named in the top 20 for the second year in a row, but just missed out on making the shortlist.
Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, said: ‘Fish and chips is a national treasure, and the skill, passion, resilience and desire to serve communities with the best food shown by the takeaways we’ve announced today is a great representation of what makes our industry so special. We can’t wait to reveal the winner in a few months’ time.’
The overall winner will take home the crown at a ceremony at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on February 25 2026.
