If we’re being honest, food may not be the first thing people think of when it comes to the UK. But the UK has plenty of delicious dishes and each area is renowned for its own regional delicacies. From Yorkshire puddings and Scottish shortbreads to Cornish pasties, plenty of those dishes come with rich histories and fascinating traditions.

Naturally, crowning Britain’s best regional delicacy is pretty contentious. But one study has had a go at doing just that, with a survey by international research agency Perspectus Global and social media platform Playsee asking 2,000 Brits to rank their fave hometown delights.

Unsurprisingly, the UK’s best-loved delicacy goes to the Yorkshire pudding, with 44 percent of the vote. A good roast is never complete without a fluffy-yet-crisp Yorkshire pudding dripping in gravy, and it truly differentiates a god-tier Sunday roast from a crummy one. Cheddar cheese came in second, followed by Scottish shortbread in third.

Here is the complete list of Britain’s favourite regional delicacies, according to Playsee and Perspectus Global.

  1. Yorkshire pudding, Yorkshire
  2. Cheddar cheese, Somerset
  3. Shortbread, Scotland
  4. Cornish pasty, Cornwall
  5. Bakewell tart, Derbyshire
  6. Scotch egg, Yorkshire
  7. Pork pie, Leicestershire
