When staying somewhere that specialises in just two things, you expect those things to be executed immaculately. So, when staying at a bed and breakfast, the bed better be like sleeping on clouds and the breakfast better be delectable.

The Dorset House (in, you guessed it, Dorset) ticks all the boxes. In fact, its beds and breakfasts are so excellent that it has been named the best B&B in the country by the annual Good Hotel Guide awards.

Good Hotel Guide’s review of the place, which is just one kilometre from Lyme Regis, pointed out ‘thoughtful touches’ and its ‘smart and uncluttered’ bedrooms. But the standout? Waking up to a four-course dining experience.

Dorset House’s award-winning breakfast menu includes hand-roasted coffee, slow-reared bacon and sausages, homemade granola, honey-baked figs and even tofu scramble for plant-based punters. For the ‘finale’, guests can choose between flapjacks or freshly made sourdough with jam or marmalade.

Owners Jason and Lyn Martin said: ‘We’re so delighted to be selected for this prestigious award. We really appreciate the support that working with fellow independent hoteliers brings.’

They added: ‘We use local produce where possible and have built up a great network of local suppliers which our guests love, enabling us to be creative with our breakfast offering and to offer guests a real inside track view of life in Dorset.’

Holidaymakers can choose between five suites, which all come with stunning views. fancy bathrobes, a minibar and bougie toiletries. They start from £175 a night and can be booked here.
