Over the years, the UK has had more than its fair share of very, very cool places. Camden, Margate, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow... they’ve all had their time in the spotlight. ‘Cool Britannia’ didn’t come out of nothing, y’know.

But which places are the coolest in the UK to live in right now? While that probably varies a heck of a lot depending on who you ask, new study by Naturecan has had a go at ranking the coolest places to live in the country based on votes from the general public.

Top of the list came Polperro in Cornwall, a famously pretty village known for being the setting for TV shows The Hairy Bikers and Echo Beach. Sure, neither of those shows are particularly cool – but with its rugged coast, stunning natural pool and picture-perfect cottages, Polperro is cool in other ways.

Next up was Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk, which boasts extraordinarily colourful beach huts, while third came Marlow in Buckinghamshire, a town on the Thames that has been used to shoot scenes for the James Bond and Star Wars franchises.

Here are the ten coolest places to live in the UK, according to Naturecan.

  1. Polperro, Cornwall
  2. Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk
  3. Marlow, Buckinghamshire
  4. Morecambe, Lancashire
  5. Baltic Triangle, Liverpool
  6. Bruton, Somerset
  7. Leith, Edinburgh
  8. Harbourside, Bristol
  9. Ely, Cambridgeshire
  10. Windermere, Cumbria

How, exactly, all these places are ‘cool’, we may never know. If you’d like to find out more about Naturecan’s ranking, you can read more about it here.
