About to jet off for your summer holiday? Well, there’s every chance you might be doing so on an airline just deemed one of the best on the planet. The 2025 edition of the Skytrax World Airline Awards took place yesterday (June 18), and two British airlines featured highly in the prestigious general ranking of the world’s top 100 carriers.

The Skytrax World Airline Awards are dubbed the ‘Oscars of aviation’, and they’re decided by wide-ranging customer surveys. The awards judge over 350 airlines before unleashing an annual list of the top 100.

This year Skytrax’s award was topped, once again, by Qatar Airways. The Qatari national carrier took home top prize in Skytrax’s list for the ninth time in the awards’ 26-year history.

No UK airlines made Skytrax’s top 10, but two made it into the top 20 – still mightily impressive considering the total number of airlines involved. So, which ones made the cut?

If you’re a keen follower of Skytrax’s annual airline list, the two featured UK airlines won’t be much of a surprise. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic were the two that made the cut, the same as last year.

British Airways came 13th in the global list, which is also exactly the same position it achieved in 2024. Virgin Atlantic was 16th, up from 17th in 2024. Virgin also scooped up a category award for ‘world’s best premium economy class’.
