An off-grid cabin perfect for foodies has just opened an hour from London

If you’ve been itching for a couple of days away from the stress of everyday city life, we’d recommend a gander at Time Out’s list of the best cabins for a cosy retreat. Here, you’ll find a selection of the top places to rest and recharge, where you can switch off for a couple of days and have a welcome break from screens and stressful emails.

Topping our list is Unplugged, an off-grid experience offering a three-night digital detox in snug wooden cabins in a secluded countryside setting. You’ll find a padlocked box to put your phone, maps and compasses to help you get around without GPS, and even a film pack to use in a Polaroid camera. A hot shower and soft bed are there to make going cold turkey without your smartphone a little easier.

Plus, for the foodies among us, Unplugged’s offering just got even better. That’s because the digital detox cabin company has launched a culinary-focused experience with outdoor cooking and local food experiences.

Called Archie, the new cabin is a collab with cooking brand Big Green Egg. It’s kitted out with a ceramic BBQ so you can grill, roast, smoke, bake and slow-cook to your heart’s content. There’s even pizza-making equipment and rotisserie accessories so you can really cook up a storm.

The new Archie cabins are located on an estate in the Vale of Belvoir in Leicestershire, and each one is within walking distance from Belvoir Castle Farm Shop, which sells local ingredients to use on the barbie. Nearby restaurants also include The Martin’s Arms, run by MasterChef: The Professionals winner Laurence Henry, as well as a pub called the Chequers Inn.
