As exciting the coronation ceremony and procession is, there’s probably only one thing on a lot of our minds this bank-holiday weekend. Pub. An icy pint on a bank holiday just hits different, doesn’t it?

Once you’re done with watching the coronation on the big screen and singing along to the coronation concert (or not), you’ll probably want to catch up with some mates over a cold one. So, if you’re keen to head to one of the country’s many buzzing beer gardens or are simply wondering what time you should plan your bedtime, don’t stress. Here’s everything you need to know about pub opening hours over the coronation weekend.

Will pubs be open on coronation day?

They most certainly will. Pubs will be open as normal on Saturday, May 6, the day of King Charles’s coronation.

What time will they be open?

Over the Corrie Naish weekend, pubs are allowed to stay open until 1am, instead of the usual 11pm – which means we get two extra hours of pint-necking on Friday May 5, Saturday May 6 and Sunday May 7.

That means that generally, venues will be open later, but make sure you check with individual pubs before heading out and making plans.

How are opening hours affected by the coronation bank holiday weekend?

Home secretary Suella Braverman recently announced that she would extend licensing hours from the normal 11pm BST to 1am over the bank holiday weekend, Friday May 5 to Sunday May 7, to allow people to ‘enjoy an extra pint or two’.

Section 172 of the Licensing Act 2003 allows the government to give permission for premises to stay open longer to mark occasions of ‘exceptional significance’. Cheers to that.
