An intriguing but faintly over-aesthetic short feature, made in London by a young Japanese director. A woman painter, in a lifeless apartment that she must have designed herself, finds her privacy invaded by a drunken man from the noisy party upstairs. The incident seems trivial, but the reverberations are massive: the woman's house of cards begins to collapse. Mori films without comment or explanation, trusting his emphasis on details to tease out the unspoken implications. Hard to imagine the method working in a full-length feature, but he just about gets away with it at this length.
