The second film this year on the subject of the immigrant Welsh community in Argentina after Gruff Rhys's scruffy, likeable 'Separado!', 'Patagonia' is a glum, soap-operatic melodrama tracking two pairs of wayward characters as they embark on life-altering road trips. While troubled Welsh couple Gwen and Rhys bicker their way across the Pampas, elderly emigre Cerys brings her teenage neighbour Alejandro back to the valleys to hunt down her family homestead. Evans's eye for landscape is impressive, but his narrow focus on this quartet of dull, platitudinous cardboard cutouts renders the film predictable and tedious. A cameo from popstrel du jour Duffy is sweet but superfluous.
