The sets left at Borehamwood after MGM's Ivanhoe provided the excuse for this rather more modest production to nip in and show that even a 46-year-old Flynn still had a modicum of swash and buckle left in him - and if he didn't, there was always the stunt double. The Black Prince (Flynn) must subdue the restless nobles in English-held Aquitaine and defeat the machinations of duplicitous count Finch. Unpretentious hokum, and any movie that casts Michael Hordern as Errol Flynn's dad has to raise a smile, especially since he was two years the star's junior.
