Time Out says

A New York romantic comedy which exhibits a touch, timing and inventiveness that puts the much acclaimed Moonstruck in its place, and the interaction between the female leads is so funny that you don't care if the leading man never turns up - the film's only problem. Tess McGill (Griffith) aches to graduate from the secretarial pool to executive level in the brokerage industry, but her male colleagues promise breaks and pass her round. The deal is no fairer under a female boss, Katharine Parker (Weaver), who never makes the coffee and steals Tess' best idea. When the boss breaks her leg skiing, Tess takes over her office, and meets investment broker Jack Trainer (Ford), with whom she works well until her boss returns breathing fire. Kevin Wade's screenplay is so sharply witty in all directions on class differences that the man in the middle appears neutral and all-purpose. All the women steal his scenes, including the wonderfully funny Joan Cusack as a back-combed secretary. A treat.
