Back in 2015, the food world was all atwitter over the fact that Julia Child’s beloved summer cottage, La Pitchoune (AKA “La Peetch”), was up for sale. It was a Provencal getaway in Chateauneuf for Child and her husband Paul starting in the 1960s; the pair would host famous culinary cohorts like James Beard and M.F.K. Fisher over the 30 years they would spend their summers there. Most recently, it was a cooking school, and now the new owner is Makenna Johnston, who is calling it La Peetch, and will be offering six-day cooking classes (La Peetch École de Cuisine) and retreats starting in 2017.
In the meantime, Curbed notes the three-bedroom stucco house has been listed on Airbnb! It's available for weekly rentals (a minimum of five nights) for $610 per night, and there’s a deposit. You can live out your Julie and Julia fantasies as you cook in her kitchen, the very one that has a replica in the Smithsonian, pegboard and all. But don’t think about swiping any priceless kitchen utensils—there’s a drop camera in the kitchen keeping an eye on you.
