If the mention of a trip to the museum makes you think of stuffy exhibitions and school trips, well think again. This year's Spring edition of Museums at Night takes place from May 11-15 2016, with a series of after-hours events at some of the capital's best museums and quirky attractions. This Clerkenwell museum will host Ye Olde Tavern Quiz in its beautiful historic rooms, some of which actually used to house a pub called Ye Olde Jerusalem Tavern. Tickets are £30 per team of up to six and the event takes place on Thursday May 12 and Friday May 13.
The charming collection of toys in this Bethnal Green museum gets a whole lot creepier for this Weird Museum at Night event. Seek out the most bizarre bits of puppetry, dolls houses and Victorian toys in the collection on this twilight tour on Thursday May 12. Tickets are £10.Read more
Have a very Scandi weekend at Dulwich Picture Gallery's events. On Thursday May 12 there's a Nordic 'crochet-a-thon' where those who can already do a bit of crochet-ing will create a collaborative piece inspired by Nikolai Astrup (£55). Friday May 13 features performances from three Scandinavian breakthrough acts followed by an outdoor screening of cult Norwegian film 'Trollhunter' (£20-30).Read more
Visit Walthamstow's Vestry House on Thursday May 12 for a Secret Garden Late to welcome spring. There'll be readings from Frances Hodgson Burnett's much-loved novel, seed-planting, music and even a flower-filled garden to relax in. Taking place on Thursday May 12, this Epping Forest Sunset Walk is a chance to wander through the woods at twilight with the help of a tour guide. A private opening of The View will be followed by a prosecco toast to William Vincent, a Victorian photographer, ornithologist and magic lanternist. The Brunel Museum is offering a special edition of its wonderful Midnight Apothecary on Friday May 13 and Saturday May 14, tickets to which include museum entry, an optional tour of the newly refurbished (and completely amazing) Brunel Tunnel and marshmallows to toast on the fire.
