Tales of Churchill's drinking are legion: and so, too, should be the words of praise to this pub. Demijohns and hurling sticks swing from the beams, along with the obligatory Churchill ephemera, and the feel is immediately welcoming: by day, with Thai food as an accompaniment, as by night. Two roaring fires aid the low lighting and help you to read the narrow if affordable wine list (it never goes north of the £20 mark). There's Caffrey's and Guinness on tap, with Fuller's Discovery and Pride in attendance too. We saw no vermouth behind the bar (Churchill liked this in his martini), with Pol Roger (his favourite champagne) available instead. We reckon the great man would have been pleased.
