Laugh Factory's 33rd Annual Free Thanksgiving Feast

This uniquely LA event marries comedy and cranberry sauce at four free dinners and comedy shows. Laugh Factory stars Dane Cook, Dave Chappelle, Kevin Nealon, Tim Allen and such as Tom Arnold are scheduled to serve food to guests and treat them to live performances after each of the four meals served that day. The free dinner and show is open to the underprivileged, homeless and lonely—as well as people who just don't have anywhere to go on Thanksgiving.

Pink Taco Volunteer Thanksgiving Dinner

Give back to others on Thanksgiving day at Pink Taco's 4th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. The restaurant is teaming up with People Assisting the Homeless and the California Department of Veterans Affairs and will be open solely to serve more than 1,000 homeless people and families a free, traditional Thanksgiving feast. Anyone can come and volunteer; just show up at 8:45am ready to help serve the buffet as well as greet guests.

Thanksgiving Day Run & Food Drive

'Tis the season for indulging. So get your metabolism revved before the feast—and give back to the community—at this 5K run/walk and 1 mile kids run. The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge hosts this annual benefit at Memorial Park (1301 Foothill Blvd), open to runners, walkers, kids and even pets (on a leash), with live music and games to boot. All participants must register and bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to families in need. Not much of a runner? Volunteer slots are open as well.

Westside Thanksgiving

This heartwarming event truly gives back to the community on Thanksgiving. Volunteers serve up a free traditional turkey dinner (starting at 11am) not only to the homeless but also to many students, singles, seniors and low-income families. Participants can volunteer by donating food, money or time, helping to serve food or hand out clothing and blankets. The event also offers free children's immunizations, haircuts and medical consultations. And a kid-friendly carnival with games and crafts starts at 8am.

Burbank Community YMCA Turkey Trot

Get moving for a good cause this Thanksgiving. Wake up early (yes, on a holiday) for Burbank YMCA's (321 E Magnolia Blvd) Turkey Trot, a 5K/10K run/walk. The event draws around 2,500 participants who choose to run, jog, walk or push strollers. Kids can enter a 1K run. Fastest adults receive cash prizes and medals. The Y is also hosting a costume contest (although we're not sure what kind of costumes really scream Thanksgiving—expect to find some turkeys running, er, trotting around). Proceeds go to the organization's membership assistance program, which offers free and affordable access to the YMCA's services for those in need.

Cafe Gratitude Venice Free Thanksgiving Meal

Looking for a free meal or volunteer opportunity? The Venice outpost of this cult-favorite restaurant serves up a pre-set organic, vegan menu for its annual free Thanksgiving dinner. The 11am-3pm meal is served on a first come, first served basis and the food does run out—so be sure to come early! Dana Point Turkey Trot

Many charities host 5k runs for Thanksgiving, but the Dana Point Turkey Trot at Dana Point Harbor (24921 Dana Point Harbor Drive) is one of the most massive and competitive. Case in point:more than 1600 participants have showed up in past years the 10k first place prize is $1,000! Yet, regardless of experience level, everyone is welcome to participate in the run. And the setting couldn't be more perfect—run by sweeping views of the beach, cliffs and coves of Dana Point. Choose from the 10k, 5k, or a Mission Hospital-sponsored Gobble Wobble 1k kids race. Check the Trot's website for the different race start times. If running isn't your thing, give back to the community by volunteering to help out with the race or have fun by dressing up for the morning's Thanksgiving costume contest. Proceeds from the day will benefit The Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group.

Santa Monica Gobble Wobble

Celebrate Thanksgiving into the weekend with this family-friendly event at Santa Monica's Emerson Park (at the intersection of Lincoln and Wilshire Blvds), chock-full of races, games and activities. Work off those turkey and gravy calories in the 5K run/walk (there's also a 1K "Widdle Woddle" for kids 10 and under). Or just dress up like a turkey for the costume contest or compete in the potato-sack race and turkey calling contest. (Winners receive a tasty pumpkin-spice cheesecake.) A kid zone will have face painting and arts and crafts to keep young ones engaged. Don't forget to bring a can of food, which will be donated to the Westside Food Bank.

The Irish are experts at making people feel at home, so where better to spend a casual Thanksgiving day than at Irish rock'n'roll-themed pub Rock & Reilly's? The bar, with its many blasting TVs, will be open early for avid football watchers.

Hollywood Christmas Parade

Like an Angelyne billboard on Sunset Blvd, the Hollywood Christmas Parade is an essential part of LA kitsch. Now in its 81st year, the annual parade will be co-hosted by Erik Estrada and Laura McKenzie and will feature floats, balloons, bands, equestrians and celebrities as they ride in a U-shaped route that begins at Hollywood and Highland and ends up at Sunset and Orange Blvds. Reserved grandstand seats can be purchased for $35-$60, with proceeds going to Toys for Tots, but free curbside seating is also available.

Holiday Trunk Show

Downtown on Ice

LA doesn't typically seem like much of a Winter Wonderland, until, that is, you create an ice-skating rink right in the midst of Downtown skyscrapers and LA icons.
