Meet the veggie burger that New Yorkers are lining up for

It's been nearly a year since James Beard award-winning Del Posto chef Brooks Headley revolutionized the veggie burger with his Superiority Burger pop-up. Now, after what's felt like a lifetime of waiting, that juicy, meatless patty has finally returned and this time it’s here to stay, with a permanent burger shack opening last night in the old Dirt Candy space.

Those who braved the pop-up's interminable, Cronut-esque lines will recall that this is a burger worth the wait: a quinoa patty topped with gooey melted cheese and crisp iceberg lettuce, tied together by the Martin’s potato roll that Shake Shack aficionados will immediately recognize. It's a burger so surprisingly satisfying, we dubbed it one of the 100 Best Dishes of 2014

And though the sneaky grand opening, which the former Del Posto pastry chef Headley announced via Instagram, went down without the boy-band crazed insanity of the pop-up, burger lovers would do well to get out there soon. The word is out, and the lucky days of no lines may soon be running out. Don't believe us? Even Dame Helen Mirren's a fan:
