Tennis fans attending the U.S. Open will have something to look forward to besides watching the greatest players in the world compete at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens. As part of an extensive overhaul of its 48-acre site, The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is building a brand new stadium with an 8,125-seat capacity, which will be ready to welcome spectators when the first round of matches begin on August 29. As impressive as that sounds, the stadium is only part of a $550 million plan that includes the addition of retractable roofs for both the Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong Stadiums, as well as the construction of a two-tiered observation deck for the practice courts.
