It seems the rest of the country finally got the memo: Queens is awesome! It was just named the number one place to visit in the United States for 2015 by Lonely Planet and we aren't surprised by the news. But in case you're just now finding out, the largest borough in New York City (it makes the isle of Manhattan seem puny) is full of diverse and delicious restaurants, a rich art culture and a rapidly growing beer scene that make it the perfect vacation destination. It's still 2014, but don't let that deter you. Here are 5 super-cool things you can do to enjoy Queens before the masses take over.
- Hope you kept that hideous pullover your were so wrongly gifted last year because it sure will come in handy Saturday 20 at this year's Ugly Sweater Run, a 5K in support of nonprofit organization Save the Children.
- Head to Astoria Market Holiday Market Sunday 21 at Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden for handmade trinkets, baked goods, eggnog, hot cider and even roasted chestnuts.
- Go see a gigantic holiday cookie village at Gingerbread Lane at New York Hall of Science. Return on January 11th to take some of the edible abode home with you!
- Throw away your art in MoMA PS1's courtyard at "MoMA PS1 and Bob & Roberta Smith Invite You to Throw Your Art Away", and earn an official "I am no longer an artist" badge. Committing career suicide has never sounded so fun.
- Take a holiday tour of King Manor Museum at Hands on History: Deck the Halls, happening this Saturday only.
