After 20 years in Union Square, Heartland Brewery is closing after service tonight. The flagship location of the New York suds chain was slated to shutter last December but was able to keep its doors open for another year. This time, the closing is confirmed. Heartland fanatics will have to flock other outposts (Midtown, Empire State BuildingLower East Side and Chop House), which will remain in service. Sad to see the original brew-pub go? Head over for a last round before your New Year's Eve festivities

Losing a standby brew-bar is rough, but this year has also seen a number of openings including Finback Brewery in Queens (their jalapeño-jolted wheat beer was one our picks for 2014's Best Dishes and Drinks) and Brooklyn's brewery-bar-coffee-shop hybrid, Threes Brewing, which is hosting Delaney's Barbecue, Roberta's and Meat Hook over the next few months.
