New Yorkers came out in force for Governors Ball 2014 this past weekend—fabulous festival fashion and colorful antics were on full display at Randalls Island. With the sunshine, epic musical performances (how about those Strokes?) and good vibes squarely in the rearview mirror, though, withdrawal symptoms are inevitable. Relive the weekend’s best moments with this slide show of the best crowd shots we captured during our three days at NYC’s biggest music festival. Well played, New York. Well played.

Governors Ball 2014: Friday

OutKast, Phoenix, Julian Casablancas and ridiculously perfect weather highlighted day one of New York’s biggest music fest Get in touch Dana Varinsky, Editor Twitter: @dgvarinsEmail: dana.varinsky at timeout.com No umbrellas were required at Randalls Island Park on Friday for the kickoff of Governors Ball 2014—though some attendees brought them along anyway as fashion accessories. In stark contrast to last year’s Gov Ball storm-and-slide, the skies were blue and spirits were high as thousands of music fans enjoyed sets from Phoenix, TV on the Radio, Damon Albarn, Grimes, Julian Casablancas and the Voidz, La Roux and OutKast. The masses were downright giddy as the reunited Atlanta hip-hop duo of Big Boi and André 3000 performed hits from its 20-year career—and there is nothing like seeing a sea of New Yorkers “shake it like a Polaroid picture.” The three-day fest continues on Saturday with performances from Jack White, Spoon, Broken Bells, Chance the Rapper, Disclosure and the Strokes. Governors Ball 2014: Saturday

Jack White, the Strokes, Skrillex and sunburn were the highlights of day two at Randalls Island Get in touch Dana Varinsky, Editor Twitter: @dgvarinsEmail: dana.varinsky at timeout.com The glorious weather held for a second day at Governors Ball, and the grateful (and painfully red-shouldered) crowds were out in force. This was the lineup that indie-rock fans had long dreamed of. Spoon, Broken Bells and headliner Jack White all served up solid sets, but the day really belonged to the Strokes, who drew the biggest—and easily most excitable—crowd of the evening. The band’s patchy live history was soon forgotten as it stormed through a packed set of old favorites and lesser-known material from its most recent record. By the time it wrapped up with “Last Nite” and an encore of “New York City Cops,” the crowd was in a frenzy—just hoping, praying that next time, the group won’t wait so long to come back. Dueling with the early-aughts icons across the field were electro acts Skrillex and Disclosure and noise-pop duo Sleigh Bells. The festival closes on Sunday with Tyler, the Creator; the Kills; Interpol; and Vampire Weekend. Governors Ball 2014: Sunday

The final day saw Interpol, the Kills and Axwell & Ingrosso take the stage for one last NYC hurrah Get in touch Dana Varinsky, Editor Twitter: @dgvarinsEmail: dana.varinsky at timeout.com Day three of Governors Ball saw the slightly flagging crowd flood onto Randalls Island one last time to see the Kills, James Blake, Empire of the Sun, Foster the People and Tyler, the Creator. Sunday also saw the much-talked-about return of local heroes Interpol to their home turf. To the crowd's delight, they unfurled a set heavy on their back catalog, including “Slow Hands,” “Evil” and a poignant “NYC.” Finishing off the weekend on the main stage was Vampire Weekend—which turned in a solid 90-minute jaunt through its career to date—and, on the Honda Stage, Axwell & Ingrosso. The EDM stars were the perfect closers, their final ecstatic notes floating in the air as confetti fell onto the emotionally wrung–out crowd. Same time next year, Governors Ball?
