Time Out says

BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) hosts New York's largest public celebration in honor of Dr. King. This year's events include visual art, musical performances, films and kids' activities over several days.

Don't miss the keynote event, The 37th Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., hosted at Howard Gilman Opera House on Monday, January 16. Artists, activists, civic leaders, and community members will join together to celebrate Dr. King's life and mission. Nationally recognized civil rights lawyer and law professor Sherrilyn Ifill will deliver the keynote address. Grammy-nominated performer Allison Russell and Vy Higginsen's award-winning choir Sing Harlem will perform. For those who cannot attend, it can be watched via livestream at 10:30am.

There is also a BAMkids workshop, "Courage Takes Creativity," which will immerse young people in art forms that have been important expressions of social justice movements; a screening of the fillm "My Name Is Pauli Murray;" and a digital billboard-based group exhibition—"Freedom!"—featuring work by seven visual artists posing questions about freedom. Musical performances will feature bassist Russell Hall and the power-jazz trio HARRIET TUBMAN. Get showtimes at BAM's website.
