La Bottega ai Promessi Sposi review 1 Users say 5/5 Rate it

Taken over recently by former cooks at Ca' D'Oro, this pared-back local has a long wooden counter groaning with excellent cicheti, a good selection of wines by the glass, and a few tables where diners can sample simple dishes - mainly but not exclusively seafood - with some twists on local stalwarts, such as fried schie (tiny grey prawns) on rocket with balsamic vinegar.

We came across this small bottega tonight, slightly off the beaten track, and were drawn inside by its warmth and ambience helped by locals drinking outside who told us it was 'the best'. We were not disappointed. Having sampled a very disappointing dinner the night before in another restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised by the kindness and friendliness of the waiter who was helpful in his suggestions. There was the feeling of good food being served to customers in a caring and friendly manner, and the staff seemed to want their customers to enjoy it. The restaurant was a typical osteria but cosy and the food was superb. Our bill was about the same as we paid the evening before in a similar restaurant for a very basic meal with indifferent service. Well done, Ai Promessi Sposi. I recommend you highly. A low cost eatery with a happy atmosphere and well-cooked, delicious food.
