Hungary, 24 June 2025 – Time Out Market Budapest, the highly-anticipated food and cultural market located in the historic Corvin Palace at Blaha Lujza Square, has unveiled the first chefs and restaurateurs to join its culinary lineup. Set to open later this year, Time Out Market will bring the best of the city – and beyond – together under one roof: a curated mix of the best chefs and restaurateurs, drinks and cultural experiences – showcasing top local talents and making them accessible in a casual space.
Across 27,000 sq ft, Time Out Market Budapest will offer food from eleven local award-winning and rising culinary talents, three bars, five event spaces and around 540 seats. Guests – whether they come with family, friends or on their own – will get to enjoy a variety of food options while coming together around communal tables, surrounded by open kitchens and a uniquely designed space. The Market will also host a vibrant year-round cultural programme alongside its curated food and drink offerings, providing an experience that will be both accessible and affordable.
Time Out Market is the world's first food and cultural market, carefully curated by experts to bring the best of the city together under one roof. In 2014, a historic market building in Lisbon was turned into the first Time Out Market and today there are eleven Markets globally in cities such as New York, Montreal, Dubai, Barcelona, Cape Town and Osaka – the execution of each is distinctly local to give a true taste of the city it is in. The Budapest location marks the inaugural Time Out Market in Central & Eastern Europe.
Time Out Market Budapest is nestled on the first floor of the refurbished Corvin Department Store in the city's Palace Quarter. Originally opened in 1926, the building was fully renovated between 2021 and spring 2023, blending its historic charm with modern standards.
A launch campaign to celebrate past, present and future local talents in this Budapest neighbourhood
This historic district around Blaha Lujza Square has long been a cultural hub of Budapest, home to iconic coffee houses, the National Theatre, and a rich literary scene. Time Out Market Budapest builds on this legacy as it brings a new culinary and cultural experience to this neighbourhood and this will be reflected in a launch campaign inspired by legendary local figures such as Lujza Blaha, Mari Jászai, Gyula Krúdy, Mór Jókai, and Antal Dreher. These groundbreaking cultural icons from old Pest are reimagined as muses to initiate an engaging dialogue with today’s local culinary and cultural talents which will be at the heart of Time Out Market Budapest.
From beloved local institutions to rising talents, the first four outstanding chefs and restaurateurs to join Time Out Market Budapest’s curated lineup have been revealed today – more vendors, and how culture will be part of the experience, will be announced in the lead up the opening:
The Italian cuisine of Anyukám Mondta will bring decades of passion and family tradition to Time Out Market Budapest
Anyukám Mondta in Encs has been a key player in Hungarian gastronomy for thirty years and now, for the first time, it has found a permanent home in Budapest at Time Out Market. The Dudás brothers, Szabolcs and Szilárd, bring together the flavours of Italian cuisine and the warmth of Hungarian hospitality: From the Margherita DOP pizza to the focaccia topped with Parma ham and burrata, every dish is made with carefully-selected ingredients, homemade dough and a unique family story.
Within the Time Out Market Budapest launch campaign, Anyukám Mondta will be paired with Lujza Blaha as its muse – “the nation’s nightingale” was a Hungarian actress and singer whose charisma and heart made her the star of the era. Together, they embody soulful, heartfelt talent, whether on stage or at the table.
Pingrumba brings the captivating flavours of the East to the Market
Pingrumba takes inspiration from food journeys that stretch from Cairo to Kolkata. The restaurant began with the traditions of Middle Eastern and North African cuisine, and from there continued through the Caucasus region, all the way to India and beyond. At the Market, it serves freshly grilled dishes made to be shared and enjoyed by guests around the table. The menu captures the essence of the discovered flavours and atmospheres, with vibrant spices, generous amounts of tahini, and bold combinations.
The campaign muse of Pingrumba is Mari Jászai: a determined and passionate actress of timeless relevance, whose character reflects the vibrant and dynamic world of the restaurant. Just as Mari Jászai always performed on stage with complete dedication, Pingrumba’s kitchen centres around bold, authentic flavours and a strong sense of community.
101 Bistro reimagines the complex flavours of Taiwan through unique bites
Inspired by the vibrant bistro culture of Taipei, 101 Bistro brings bold, new-wave Taiwanese flavours to the heart of Budapest. The restaurant draws influence from the culinary traditions of mainland China, Japan, and the West, while staying true to the Taiwanese philosophy of seasonality and complexity. What makes 101 Bistro truly unique is how it reinterprets these global flavours using locally-sourced Hungarian ingredients, adapting each dish to suit local palates while retaining its authentic spirit. At Time Out Market Budapest, 101 Bistro will showcase its “101 Bistro Favourites” — a menu built around beloved signature dishes such as spicy Sichuan Spinach and tender Shoupa Chicken, which have become long-standing guest favourites.
It is this creativity that makes 101 Bistro the perfect pairing within the launch campaign with a historic muse known for his vivid imagination, refined taste, and appreciation for culinary pleasures: Mór Jókai, the prolific 19th-century writer.
Szaletly’s mission at Time Out Market is to bring contemporary Hungarian cuisine closer to the city’s food lovers
Szaletly’s philosophy is built on a deep respect for culinary traditions and among the carefully crafted dishes by chef Dániel Bernát, guests will find crowd favourites such as layered potatoes, poppy seed bread pudding, and goulash soup. These classic, home-inspired menu items are served with seasonal, high-quality ingredients and created with a modern approach.
Paired with writer and journalist Gyula Krúdy for the launch campaign, Szaletly evokes the atmosphere of Hungarian urban dining and the everyday moments of café culture. The restaurant’s perspective and its respect for gastronomic traditions both contribute to bringing Krúdy’s world back to life.
Dreher Tanksör taps into tradition with unpasteurised tank beer
Few names are as synonymous with Hungarian beer culture as Dreher. With over 170 years of brewing tradition, Dreher has always been committed to quality and innovation, values that align perfectly with the vision of Time Out Market Budapest, where visitors will be able to enjoy fresh tank beer directly from the source — unpasteurised and full of character. It is a tribute to Antal Dreher, the visionary brewer who brought innovation and excellence to Hungarian beer production in the 19th century. This is not just a drink; it’s a toast to legacy.
Gergely Borsos, General Manager of Time Out Market Budapest said: “Time Out Market is dedicated to bringing the best of the city together under one roof. In Budapest, this means showcasing the most exciting and authentic expressions of local gastronomy, from the capital and also from three standout regions across Hungary. Guided by this vision, our team explored the city and its surroundings to uncover places where real culinary value is created, where bold flavors, passionate chefs and distinctive food philosophies come together – and then we invited the very best to join Time Out Market Budapest.
The result is a carefully curated selection that highlights the richness, diversity and innovation of our local cuisine. Time Out Market Budapest is not just a place to eat — it is a destination designed to inspire, engage and delight both locals and international visitors through memorable culinary and cultural experiences which we make both accessible and affordable.
Our lineup features some of the most respected chefs and restaurateurs in the city and beyond. They are not only recognised for their professional excellence but are also beloved by the public. Through their unique styles and creative kitchens, they will help define the Market’s character. Alongside established and award-winning names, we are also proud to spotlight emerging talent, offering a platform for fresh voices to thrive and contribute to a dynamic, evolving food scene.
We look forward to opening the doors to Time Out Market Budapest later this year in the iconic Corvin Palace on Blaha Lujza Square. This historic space offers an exceptional backdrop for food and culture, and to come together, inviting guests to discover the vibrant and multifaceted spirit of Budapest in one extraordinary location.”
