This is Time Out Market’s first neighborhood Market – a new smaller, more intimate format bringing the best of the city and the neighbourhood together under one roof, with a focus on rising talents
Time Out Market New York, Union Square is set to open its doors to the public on Friday, 26 September at 8am; it will be open daily from 8am to 10pm.
Time Out Market is a food and cultural market that brings the best of the city together under one roof: a curated mix of the city’s best chefs, restaurateurs, drinks and cultural experiences. The 10,000-square-foot culinary destination at Union Square will feature seven kitchens, a full-service bar, communal tables and around 240 seats, including an outdoor terrace.
Time Out Market Union Square will offer a lineup of culinary superstars from rising stars to local favorites, including Patty Palace by Chef Kwame Onwuachi, Kebabwala by Unapologetic Foods, Taqueria El Chato, Lori Jayne Burger, Fornino Pizza, Kam Rai Thai, and Paninoteca by Anthony. There will also be a coffee & pastry showcase including gooey cinnamon rolls from Sunday Morning; croissants, egg muffins, and navettes from Épicerie Boulud; buttery shortbread from Shortbread Society; and Magnolia Bakery’s iconic banana pudding, brownies, and New York–style cheesecakes. The bar will feature signature cocktails alongside rotating local and craft beers, a curated wine list, and a range of mocktails and non-alcoholic options.
Time Out Market’s new Union Square location marks the 13th site globally (it will follow hot on the heels of the Budapest opening on 20 September) and the second in New York where a flagship opened in 2019 in Dumbo spanning 24,000 sq ft with 21 kitchens, three bars and a stage, plus rooftop views of the Manhattan skyline. By contrast, Union Square will be a smaller but equally vibrant hub with a stronger focus on local up-and-coming culinary and cultural talent. As such, it will be a place for the local community to come together to enjoy amazing food while experiencing cultural activations too. Screens throughout the Market will showcase Time Out New York’s expert recommendations on things to do nearby, creating a visually engaging experience that entertains and inspires guests.
Virginia Rector-Birbal, VP US Time Out Markets, said: "Time Out Market New York, Union Square will be a celebration of outstanding local culinary talents spanning diverse influences and flavors. Each of our Markets around the world features a curated mix of the city’s best talents––this too is at the heart of our Union Square site. Compared to our existing larger flagships, this is our first smaller neighborhood Market, dedicated to highlighting rising talents alongside local favorites as well as emerging home-grown artists, and to being a space for the local community to come together, from people living and working in this neighborhood, students from nearby universities, or visitors wanting to experience local food and culture."

Details about Time Out Market Union Square’s culinary line up
Patty Palace by Chef Kwame Onwuachi
At Time Out Market New York, Union Square, James Beard Award winning chef Kwame Onwuachi will debut Patty Palace, serving his celebrated Jamaican patties—curried chicken, beef, and jerk mushroom, tucked into coco bread with ginger-cabbage slaw, jerk BBQ sauce, and green seasoning aioli, alongside his sparkling water brand, Miri. Onwuachi, hailed as “America’s most important chef” by the San Francisco Chronicle and featured on Time’s 100 Next list, is also the force behind Tatiana at Lincoln Center, named “#1 Restaurant in New York City” by The New York Times and honored by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and La Liste.
Kebabwala by Unapologetic Foods
Unapologetic Foods—led by Roni Mazumdar and Chef Chintan Pandya, the team behind highly acclaimed NYC restaurants Dhamaka, Semma, and Adda—champions regional Indian cuisine and challenges the status quo. Semma, spotlighting heritage Southern Indian cuisine, was named the #1 restaurant of the year by The New York Times and is NYC’s only Michelin-starred Indian restaurant. At Time Out Market New York, Union Square, the group will debut Kebabwala, the much-anticipated kebab concept inspired by India’s vibrant night market culture.
Taqueria El Chato
Taqueria El Chato is one of NYC’s most exciting new taco spots and recently recommended by the Michelin Guide New York 2025 for its standout tacos, vampiros, and quesadillas. Chris Reyes and Chef Gerardo Alcaraz have quickly gained a cult following since the Greenpoint debut last year, followed by a second West Village location. At Time Out Market New York, Union Square, the menu will feature suadero, pastor, and tripa tacos, along with made-to-order vampiros and quesadillas, plus chorizo and mushroom options.
Lory Jayne Burger
Chef-owner Sam Braverman has turned his Bushwick hit Lori Jayne—born out of a tiny kitchen in the back of Alphaville bar and loved for inventive comfort food like his famous steak frites—into one of NYC’s most talked-about spots, now expanding to Time Out Market. The menu will spotlight the signature LJ Burger, Buffalo 2.0 chicken sandwich, crispy Sichuan shrooms, hand-cut fries, craveable original sauces, rotating frozen custard cups, and customizable burger add-ons like thick bacon, chili, and double patties—all inspired by Braverman’s 32 years of living, rocking, and cooking in New York, with a nod to his mom Lori Jayne, who taught him how to cook and care for people (and will be on site every day until Sam can convince her to go back to work!).
Fornino
Fornino, named after chef-owner Michael Ayoub’s mother’s maiden name (“little oven” in Italian), helped ignite New York’s artisanal pizza movement in the early 2000s and has since grown into a beloved Brooklyn staple known for quality ingredients, blistered crusts, and bold flavors. Now, after years as a favorite at Time Out Market in Dumbo where he will continue to offer his pizza, Fornino is bringing its signature pies to Manhattan for the first time at Time Out Market New York, Union Square, with a menu of Fornino classics, crisp salads, and seasonal specials sourced from the nearby Union Square Greenmarket.
Kam Rai Thai
Kam Rai Thai, a hidden gem from Astoria opened two years ago by Chef Dhanapol “Oak” Marprasert and Jiraporn “Jina” Tisopa, has quickly built a loyal following for its bold, authentic flavors from all regions of Thailand, fresh ingredients, and fast-casual style, recently expanding with Samsaen in Hudson Yards. At Time Out Market New York, Union Square, the menu will feature smoky grilled pork buns, Khao Soi with confit chicken in coconut curry, crispy Hat Yai fried chicken with sticky rice, and the fan-favorite wok-charred pad see ew.
Paninoteca by Anthony
After careers in finance and competitive cooking, Anthony Valois launched a BBQ restaurant before opening Anthony’s Paninoteca in 2018, turning it into a beloved Staten Island gem with fresh, high-quality ingredients from house-cured and smoked pastrami inspired by his BBQ days and paper-thin chicken cutlets. His Italian American sandwiches, rooted in family memories and childhood experiences in Staten Island, are crafted with the best Italian products and have earned acclaim—including The New York Times’ “57 Sandwiches That Define New York City” and The Infatuation’s “18 Best Sandwiches in America.” Now bringing his creations to Time Out Market New York, Union Square, the menu features classics like the Prosciutto Union Square with Prosciutto di Parma, mozzarella, and sundried peppers, alongside inventive pairings such as the Della-Tella with truffle mortadella, stracciatella, and pistachio pesto, plus weekly specials inspired by his Staten Island shop.
Bar and Coffee & Pastry
The Market’s bar will feature signature cocktails like a bourbon-ginger sour and a smoky mezcal–pear refresher, alongside rotating local and craft beers, a curated wine list, and a range of mocktails and non-alcoholic options—true to its mission of showcasing the best of the city under one roof.
The Market will also feature a Coffee & Pastry showcase, starting with coffee and expertly crafted espresso drinks from Coffee Project NY and cold brew from La Colombe. Guests can enjoy croissants, egg muffins, and navettes from Épicerie Boulud by acclaimed chef Daniel Boulud; gooey cinnamon rolls from Sunday Morning; buttery seasonal shortbread from Shortbread Society; and Magnolia Bakery’s iconic banana pudding, brownies, and New York–style cheesecakes.
