Union Square in Manhattan will soon be home to a new Time Out Market—the food and cultural market that brings the best of the city together under one roof: a curated mix of the city’s best chefs, restaurateurs, drinks and entertainment.

Set to open to the public in September, the 10,000 sq ft Time Out Market New York, Union Square, will feature seven kitchens, a full-service bar and a performance space—there will be communal tables and around 240 seats including an outdoor terrace.

Today, Time Out Market New York, Union Square announces its culinary lineup—a mix of the city’s top chefs and restaurateurs with a focus on rising talents and local favorites that reflect the dynamic and diverse food scenes from across many NYC neighborhoods.

Patty Palace by Chef Kwame Onwuachi – Jamaican patties

At Time Out Market New York, Union Square acclaimed Chef Kwame Onwuachi will open Patty Palace where he will serve his famous Jamaican patties. Featuring curried chicken, beef, and jerk mushroom, each patty is tucked into coco bread and served with ginger cabbage slaw, jerk BBQ sauce, and a green seasoning aioli—a true celebration of Caribbean flavors. The menu will also feature Miri, the Chef’s own sparkling water brand.

Kwame Onwuachi is a James Beard Award-winning chef who has received numerous accolades including being featured on Time’s 100 Next List and being named the most important Chef in America by the San Francisco Chronicle. His restaurant concept Tatiana opened at the Lincoln Center in November 2022 and has since been celebrated as “The #1 Restaurant in New York City” by The New York Times, and honored by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and La Liste.

Kebabwala by Unapologetic Foods – Indian kebab

Unapologetic Foods—led by co-founders Roni Mazumdar and Chef Chintan Pandya—champions regional Indian cuisine and challenges the status quo with the highly acclaimed New York City restaurants Dhamaka, Semma, and Adda. Semma, with its heritage Southern Indian cuisine, was named the #1 restaurant of the year by The New York Times and is NYC’s only Michelin-starred Indian restaurant.

At Time Out Market New York, Union Square, the Unapologetic Foods team will debut the highly anticipated and much-buzzed-about brand Kebabwala, an Indian kebab concept celebrating the foods of the vibrant night market culture in India.

Taqueria El Chato – Tacos

Taqueria El Chato is one of NYC’s most exciting new taco spots which was recommended by the Michelin Guide New York 2025 for its ‘concise menu of deftly executed tacos, vampiras, and quesadillas’. Since last year’s opening of Taqueria El Chato in Greenpoint, Chris Reyes and Chef Gerardo Alcaraz have quickly gained a cult following. Following the success of its Greenpoint debut, a second location opened earlier this year in the West Village, further expanding the brand’s presence and acclaim.

On the menu at Time Out Market New York, Union Square: suadero, pastor, and tripa tacos, plus vampiros and quesadillas made to order, with chorizo and mushroom options.

Lory Jayne Burger – “The burger you deserve”

Chef-owner Sam Braverman has transformed a Bushwick dive bar into one of NYC’s most buzzed-about culinary destinations. His restaurant, Lori Jayne—a tiny kitchen tucked into the back of the Alphaville bar—is much loved for its inventive takes on comfort food such as his famous steak frites and this success is now leading to expansion at Time Out Market.

Comfort food will also be on the menu at Time Out Market with a focus on the signature LJ Burger, Buffalo 2.0 chicken sandwich, crispy Sichuan shrooms, hand-cut fries, craveable original sauces, and rotating frozen custard cups—plus customizable burger add-ons like almost-award-winning-chili, thick bacon, and a second patty. This is comfort food informed by 32 years of living, rocking, and cooking in New York City. Lori Jayne is Sam's mom who taught him how to cook and care for people—she will be on site every day until Sam can convince her to go back to work.

Fornino – Pizza and salads

Fornino is named after chef-owner Michael Ayoub’s mother’s maiden name (“little oven” in Italian). Ayoub is a pioneer of New York’s pizza culture, credited with igniting the artisanal pizza craze that took hold in the early 2000s. Since opening the first Fornino in Williamsburg, he has grown the brand with locations across Brooklyn and beyond, all while staying true to the fundamentals: quality ingredients, expertly blistered crusts, and bold, thoughtful flavor combinations.

Now, Fornino is bringing its signature pies to Manhattan for the first time at Time Out Market New York, Union Square—joining the new location after becoming a longtime favorite at Time Out Market New York in Dumbo where he will continue to offer his pizza. The Union Square menu will feature Fornino classics, crisp salads, and seasonal specials crafted from Michael’s own finds at the nearby Union Square Greenmarket.

Kam Rai Thai – Authentic Thai food

A hidden gem in Astoria, Kam Rai Thai offers authentic, satisfying Thai food and is known for its bold flavors, fresh ingredients, fast-casual approach and beautiful dishes from all regions of Thailand. Since Kam Rai Thai’s opening two years ago and this summer of Samsaen in Hudson Yards, the team around Chef Dhanapol "Oak" Marprasertborn in Washington and raised in Bangkok where he developed an interest in Thai cuisine watching his mother cookinghas built a loyal following. Jiraporn "Jina" Tisopa, co-owner and Oak’s partner in both life and business, runs the front of house and operations, bringing warmth, hospitality, and entrepreneurial spirit to the heart of the brand.

Paninoteca by Anthony - Italian American sandwiches and salads

After a career in finance and competitive cooking, Anthony Valois opened a BBQ restaurant before launching Anthony's Paninoteca in 2022 —a return to his roots that quickly became a beloved Staten Island gem. His goal has always been to feed, connect, and bring joy to his community so everything is made fresh daily with the finest ingredients, from in-house cured and smoked pastrami inspired by his BBQ days to house-made porchetta and paper-thin chicken cutlets. These sandwiches, built on early family memories and childhood experiences in Staten Island, are crafted with care using the best Italian products and have earned acclaimincluding The New York Times’ “57 Sandwiches That Define New York City” and The Infatuation’s “18 Best Sandwiches in America.”

On the menu at Time Out Market: classic and creative combinations such as the Prosciutto Union Square with Prosciutto di Parma, mozzarella, and sundried peppers; and inventive pairings like the Della-Tella with truffle-studded mortadella, creamy stracciatella and pistachio pesto, plus weekly surprises mirroring the outpost in Staten Island.

The Market’s curated food offering will be complemented by a bar featuring signature cocktails like a bourbon-ginger sour with tropical notes or a smoky mezcal–pear refresher with rosemary and pink salt, alongside a rotating selection of local and craft beers, a curated wine list, and a range of mocktails and non-alcoholic options—keeping with the Market’s mission to bring the best of the city together under one roof.

The Market will also feature a Coffee & Pastry showcase with a curated selection of some of the best local places to delight guests from breakfast and throughout the day. There will be buttery shortbread in creative seasonal flavors from Shortbread Society; and Magnolia Bakery’s beloved banana pudding layered with fresh bananas and vanilla wafers, alongside their rich brownies and signature New York–style cheesecakes.

A space where the community can come together

Time Out Market New York, Union Square will offer communal seating making it easy to connect with others while exploring diverse food from various kitchens alongside local culture with emerging artists and performers such as collaborations with the NYU Student Union and The New School student clubs, live music from local bands, DJ sets, pop-up performances by dancers and other artists, as well as community-driven events. Seasonal programming will feature holiday celebrations and cultural festivities throughout the year.

Time Out’s digital expertise will also be part of the experience via content featured on screens positioned throughout the Market––for example, highlighting things to do nearby, based on Time Out New York local experts’ recommendations, creating a visually engaging experience that entertains and inspires guests.

Virginia Rector-Birbal, VP US Time Out Markets, said: “ Time Out Market New York, Union Square will be a celebration of outstanding local culinary talents spanning diverse influences and flavors. Each of our Markets around the world features a curated mix of the city’s best talents––this too is at the heart of our Union Square site. A smaller format compared to our flagships, there will be a focus on rising talents alongside local favorites. And as culture will play a role as well, we will also provide a platform for emerging home-grown artists and performers.

“Time Out Market New York, Union Square will be a place where the community can come together—whether that’s people living around here, students from nearby universities, workers in this neighborhood or visitors wanting to experience local food and culture which we make accessible. Our guests get to discover the city’s flavors, creativity and fresh ideas, under one roof in a uniquely designed space. It will be a place for everyone, every and all day—for all ages, budgets, tastes.”

The new Union Square site will be Time Out Market’s second food and cultural market in New York, in addition to the flagship that opened in 2019 in Brooklyn’s Dumbo neighborhood with 24,000 sq ft across two floors and will continue to offer––with 21 kitchens, three bars and a stage––outstanding culinary and cultural experiences alongside incredible rooftop views of the Manhattan skyline. By contrast, the Union Square site will be a smaller but equally vibrant format with a stronger focus on local up-and-coming culinary and cultural talent. While at the heart of each Market is the celebration of the best of the city, the execution is always distinctly local to reflect the city and the neighbourhood it is in; as such, both New York Time Out Markets will be unique in their own ways.

The first Time Out Market opened in Lisbon in 2014, bringing the best of the city together under one roof––curated by local Time Out’s expert editors. Time Out Market New York, Union Square is the twelfth Market to open, in addition to sites spanning the globe in cities such as Boston, Chicago, Montreal, Dubai, Cape Town, Osaka, Porto, Barcelona and more, with further sites under development.
