My Didi driver looked genuinely puzzled when he saw where I was staying. “Most tourists prefer Chunxi Road or Tianfu Square,” he said, name-dropping Chengdu’s usual city-centre hotspots. For a split second, I wondered if I’d made a mistake choosing Yiu Teung Mansion as my home base.
But the moment we pulled into the property, any doubt vanished. Not only had we passed several of his recommended spots on the way in, the hotel itself was also absolutely stunning. Step through the gates – lined with fragrant osmanthus trees in full bloom – and you’re met with a quiet, refined grandeur you simply won’t find anywhere near the main tourist drag.
Why stay at Yiu Teung Mansion
The courtyard alone is worth booking a room for. A cinematic blend of East and West, it’s an elegant, wedding-worthy backdrop framed by Chinese architectural details and European flourishes.
Yiu Teung Mansion stands out precisely because it doesn’t feel like a typical city hotel. It’s intimate, design-driven and richly atmospheric, with a strong sense of place. Inside, the pace of Chengdu softens into something gentler – garden pathways, manicured greenery, Republic-era notes, French-style courtyards. It has impeccable style, but also depth and character.

What are the rooms like at Yiu Teung Mansion?
My king room came with a full study area, a three-seater sofa and large French windows opening into the courtyard. Design-wise, the rooms land beautifully between modern luxury and subtle heritage touches. You get a seven-choice pillow menu, a sleep aromatherapy kit and even a bar cart stocked with thoughtful details.
If there’s a drawback, it’s the air-conditioning, which ran a little warm. And while the shower is gorgeous, the water pressure could be better. Still, the room had that “curl up and stay in” charm, especially after long days wandering through Chengdu’s chilly autumn rain. Keeping the windows open let the crisp evening breeze cool down the space naturally.

What’s the restaurant like at Yiu Teung Mansion?
Breakfast at The Magnolia, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, is exceptional. It’s genuinely one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had, leaning heavily into Chengdu flavours rather than the usual international hotel spread.
Its renditions of Chengdu street classics – like do-it-yourself savoury bean curd pudding and dan hong gao from the live station – rivalled the street versions we tasted in the city. In fact, they might have been even better. There’s also a noodle and dumpling station, a congee counter and steamed local dishes that rotate daily.
If you want a taste of Chengdu without leaving the property, the à la carte menu is excellent too. Try the beef and offal, a local signature. You won’t feel like you’re missing out by staying in.

What's the location like around Yiu Teung Mansion?
The hotel sits between Tianfu Yi Street and Jiannan Avenue, tucked beside Jincheng Lake Park. It occupies a quiet pocket of a major commercial district, giving you the perfect balance of tranquillity inside the compound and immediate access to shopping, dining and entertainment. And even though it’s not in the traditional city-centre, Chengdu’s top sights are an easy subway or Didi ride away.
Why you should stay at Yiu Teung Mansion
Yiu Teung Mansion is ideal for travellers who want a Chengdu stay with style, not just another glossy international chain. It’s beautiful, atmospheric and deeply comfortable. If you’re after tranquillity, design and a taste of old-meets-new Chengdu, this is the hotel to book.
