If you're planning a wellness getaway for 2026, this list of Asian spa hot spots should help

If 2026 is the year you finally stop glorifying burnout and start booking massages instead, the world’s latest spa trend report has some very good news for Asia-based spa enthusiasts. According to new data from SpaSeekers.com, which analysed more than 40 million spa-related Google searches made during 2025, travellers are increasingly planning their holidays around hot springs, hammams, saunas and seriously indulgent wellness retreats. And while Europe and Africa continue to charm spa traditionalists, Asia is quietly (and sometimes virally) stealing the show.
From China’s all-night mega-spas to jungle-wrapped retreats in Laos and the Philippines, the region is emerging as one of the world’s most exciting places to press pause.
Let’s start with the headline act. According to the report, China has become one of the world’s fastest-rising spa destinations, with four cities landing in the global top five trending spa cities for 2026
Shanghai leads the charge, clocking a hefty 67 per cent spike in spa-related searches year on year. Close behind are Shenzhen, Beijing and Guangzhou – and their popularity can largely be traced back to China’s now-viral 24-hour spas. These are not your average candle-and-whale-music affairs: think hot springs, saunas and massages bundled with buffets, movies, gaming zones and karaoke, all designed for an overnight stay. It’s a format that’s gone viral on social media, and global travellers are clearly keen to experience it IRL.
Beyond China’s mega-cities, Southeast Asia continues to shine for travellers chasing tranquillity. Laos ranks among the world’s top 10 trending spa countries, while the Philippines is also climbing fast, driven by its growing collection of eco-resorts and wellness lodges hidden between rainforests, rice paddies and white-sand beaches.
Vietnam, too, is seeing rising interest, as travellers blend city stays with wellness escapes in coastal and mountainous regions. India also makes a strong showing in the city rankings, with Bangalore, Kolkata and Jaipur all seeing notable growth in spa-related searches. From contemporary wellness centres in tech hubs to treatments inspired by Ayurveda and centuries-old healing traditions, the country’s spa scene is broadening fast – and international travellers are taking notice.
Further north, Bhutan and Nepal are also trending at a country level, appealing to those who like their wellness served with spiritual grounding, mountain air and digital detox baked in.
What this year’s report makes clear is that spa travel is no longer a niche add-on – it’s becoming the main event. And Asia, with its mix of innovation, tradition, affordability and sheer variety, is now one of the world’s most compelling regions to do it.
