With its dramatic slanted glass-pyramid silhouette and oversized courtyard sculptures, Hotel Éclat knows exactly how to make an entrance. Slip in through the side of the adjoining Parkview Green Mall and the spectacle continues with more installations, more sculptures and more reasons to stop and stare.

This small luxury hotel blends visionary architecture with museum-quality art and polished service. Unlike other hotels where the art on the walls might just be an afterthought, art is the core identity of this hotel. It's home to one of the largest private collections of Salvador Dalí in Asia, alongside original pieces by Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon, Zhang Xiaogang, Liu Ruowang, Chen Wenling, and other Chinese and international artists. Every floor functions like a mini gallery and even the guestrooms are part of the exhibition.

Why stay at Hotel Éclat?

The sheer volume of art packed into the hotel is seriously impressive. You’ll spot contemporary works by China-based artists next to major global names like the 18 original Dalí chairs, each weighing a casual 100kg, lined up across the 18th floor. Nothing is hidden or roped off, and every artwork has a QR code so you can dive into its story. When I (half-jokingly) asked whether any of the pieces were for sale, the staff laughed kindly. No, this is a passion project of the hotel's owner, who also happens to have one of the largest private collections of contemporary art in China.

What are the rooms like at Hotel Éclat?

The hotel has 100 rooms, with 20 themed suites ranging from one to three bedrooms. And get this, every suite comes with its own private, 5m-long heated swimming pool. At this price point, we'd say that that’s almost unheard of in Beijing or anywhere, really.

Each suite is decorated to a different theme, from city escapes to the Champs-Élysées in Paris to a Swiss cabin retreat. I stayed in the London Suite, a sprawling one-bedroom apartment complete with a pantry, a washer-dryer, large dining table, plenty of lounge seating, and of course, the private pool housed in an enclosed "micro-climate" so you're well insulated from Beijing's smog and chilly winter winds. Design touches nod to London in a playful, slightly kitschy way like vintage-style suitcases, King-and-Queen pillowcases and decorative porcelain plates.

While I loved the massive size of the suite, it did come with its quirks. For one, the lighting system took a while to figure out, with each lamp following its own logic and tracking down the right switches taking a couple of minutes. The bathroom is also open-concept – with the shower and bathtub area linked to the bedroom without a door, which means draft coming in from the AC and feeling more than a little exposed as you shower directly in front of the vanity mirror.

What’s the restaurant like at Hotel Éclat?

Breakfast is served at George's Restaurant on the second floor of the hotel, right above the main lobby. It's a small and cosy space and the food options are equally limited with a semi-buffer of pastries, fruit and various dishes served alongside a short but sharp selection of Western and Chinese mains. If you want more options, the hotel is directly connected to the Parkview Green Mall, which has plenty of restaurants to choose from.

What’s the service like at Hotel Éclat?

The front desk team walked us through the hotel, pointing out key art pieces, and were professional without hovering. Their English was also excellent, which helped, given my very limited Mandarin. Housekeeping was incredibly responsive – a request for toothbrushes arrived so fast it felt like teleportation.

What are the spa and gym like at Hotel Éclat?

There’s no dedicated spa, but with a private heated pool in your suite, you won't really miss it. Plus you're in Beijing and there are excellent massage parlours within easy reach whether you're looking for traditional Chinese tuina or a relaxing aromatherapy deep-tissue massage. There's also a gym on-site but guests can also access the larger commercial gym inside the connected mall.

What’s the area like around Hotel Éclat?

Hotel Éclat sits in Beijing’s Central Business District, right next to Parkview Green Mall. The Chaoyang, Sanlitun and Soho areas are all nearby, and major sights like the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven are easily accessible by taxi or subway.

Why you should book a stay at Hotel Éclat

If you love art, or just want to stay in a different sort of hotel that offers some real personality. Hotel Éclat bold, playful, and filled with extraordinary works you’d normally only see in private collections.
