It's hard to imagine having legitimate Austin tiki bars (and even tiki drinks) when the closest tropical island is thousands of miles away. But some of the best bars in Austin—both upscale cocktail bars and divier spots—have managed to channel the aloha spirit while offering mai tais, piña coladas and Navy Grogs. Some fully embrace the theme while others dedicate a night or two to the cause, but all of these Austin tiki bars and watering holes serving tiki drinks provide a means of escape—even if it's just for a couple of hours.

Pool Burger specializes in burgers, soft serve and tiki drinks—essentially, everything you need to enjoy Austin's never-ending summer. The burger menu is expansive (including picks like the Loyal Forever, a double cheeseburger with pickled jalapeños), the homemade soft serve is delightful, but you'll definitely want to make a beeline for the festive tiki bar inside. From the Man Overboard and Singapore Slings to the mezcal-doused Shipwrecked, Pool Burger goes beyond rum and incorporates a variety of spirits to create beach-worthy drinks.

While Craftsman has been doing Tiki Tuesdays for a while now, they decided to make their island adventures a regular weekend fixture. Found in Craftsman's backyard, the aptly-named Tiki Bar offers a menu with concoctions like the Painkiller (Pusser's Rum, pineapple, orange, coconut and nutmeg), Road to Hana (Coruba Rum, Smith & Cross Rum, Giffard Banana, cinnamon, lemon and angostura bitters) and Late Nights in Lahaina (coconut rum, sherry, lime, passionfruit and angostura bitters). There's a Phish Bowl, of course (vodka, lemon, sugar, passionfruit LaCroix and blue curaçao), along with classics like a pineapple rum old-fashioned and coconut mojito. Snag some poke from adjacent Alley Cat, a Hawaiian soul food truck.

As one of the east side's more upscale cocktail bars, Ah Sing Den has still managed to become a neighborhood staple, serving Pan-Asian cuisine and expertly made drinks in an atmosphere that sports a Victorian vibe. The happy hour here is a gold mine, but you'll really want to stop by on Tiki Tuesdays, when the bar transforms into a tropical oasis with flaming volcano bowls and $6 classics like mai tais and daiquiris.

The Roosevelt Room isn't a tiki bar, but they do serve some of the best tiki drinks in the city. An entire section of their menu is dedicated to tiki, with drinks that include classics like the Suffering Bastard, mai tai, Zombie and Painkiller. There's also the Huli Pau!, a modern and original tiki creation—not to mention one of our 2018 Bar Awards nominees. So while there may not be thatched roofts and tiki torches throughout the place, their tropical drinks will have you feeling like you're vacationing on the beach.

Hula Hut may focus on Tex-Mex cuisine, but its vibe is decidedly Polynesian—just take a look at the grass huts that line the water, along with its bamboo walls and tiki torches. The menu boasts shrimp quesadillas, Hawaiian fajitas and fresh fish tacos (plus full-on luau dinners and pu pu platters), and the bar is a tiki drink wonderland where you'll find a Blue Hawaiian, Rip Tide, Mai Tai, Grass Skirt and more.
