Billykart's West End venue is the second in Ben O'Donoghue's café empire. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, O'Donoghue's second born displays a picket-fence-mounted, deconstructed billycart hung under blue neon signage on the side wall, an open kitchen running the length of the bustling dining room and and multicoloured-glass back wall with all the character of an old Queenslander home. The menu is packed with flavour-bombed dishes, not least O'Donoghue's Aussie Asian Eggs breakfast of bacon and prawns, and his clever spin on the fairground Corn Dog with spicy, paprika laced sobrassada, battered and fried to golden, spicy chipotle salsa, Baja-inspired sour cream, poached egg and avocado.
With changing seasonal menus paired with a selection of boutique beverages, there’s a strong focus on the origin of food to create fresh, bistro-style dishes.
