Bucci has been part of the scene on upmarket James Street since the precinct's high-street-style inception, and it ain't going nowhere. Owner-chef Shaun Malone mans the open kitchen overlooking the dining room walled with bifolds opening onto the street, alive with shoppers, workers, eaters and drinkers looking for their next fix. We found a stunning side dish on our last visit, with tightly wound ribboned zucchini surrounding a mix of handpicked seasonal leaves, tender broad beans, fine shreds of house-pickled cabbage brightened with a turmeric hue, nutty grains of farro, and camel milk feta dressed with a fennel-charged, roasted pumpkin seed oil dressing. It’s just the thing to accompany Malone's interpretations of Italian-style cotoletta, risotto del giorno or Bucci agnolotti.
