Time Out says

Photographs capturing rural life and landscapes of North Devon in the 1970s and 80s.

James Ravilious was born in Eastbourne, and shortly before his death in the late 90s, he was given Honorary Membership of the Royal Photographic Society in recognition of his contribution to photography.

The works displayed here were taken for the Beaford Archive - to which he contributed over 70,000 images - where subtle qualities of light have been captured to reflect the rural life of Devon in the 1970s and 80s, creating a snapshot of real life in the fields, farms, and villages, as well as a depiction of countryside on the brink of chance.
