Skating is one of the best things to do at Christmas in Budapest. Backdropped by a fairytale castle in City Park, glittering lights around festive markets and grandiose town halls, beginners and pros alike can glide to their heart’s content across the Hungarian capital.

Off-peak admission during the week brings down modest admission prices and children's discounts usually apply. A couple of rinks are even free, skate rental and warming drinks are affordable, and most spots are a simple metro or tram journey away. One exception is Csepel, whose Ice Park, light tunnel and illuminated corridors and all, are only a skip on the HÉV suburban train from Boráros tér.
