1. Cross the Andes on Horseback: An Epic Journey Between Argentina and Chile

If you're looking for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, few excursions compare to crossing the Andes on horseback. This eight-day expedition retraces part of the historic route followed by the Army of the Andes, led by José de San Martín in 1817. The journey begins in San Juan and crosses the Andes through valleys, mountain passes and high-altitude camps, reaching elevations of more than 4,500 meters (14,760 feet) above sea level.
Along the way, travelers ride ancient Andean trails, cross rivers and mountain paths, sleep in remote camps beneath crystal-clear skies and discover some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Andes. Beyond the physical challenge, the experience offers a deep immersion into the region's history, gaucho culture and dramatic wilderness.
