Tourism in Mar del Plata is not exclusively synonymous with summer. Although the iconic images of umbrellas on the sand remain, “La Feliz” has much more to offer throughout the year. Between the sea, hills, and city, this great coastal metropolis combines nature, culture, history, and gastronomy to create unforgettable getaways in any season. Just 400 kilometers from Buenos Aires, it’s the perfect destination for a long weekend, a quick adventure, or a break filled with salty air and local flavor. In this guide, we bring you 20 must-do plans to rediscover Mar del Plata beyond the beach (and many are free or very affordable!).

This place has a legend: it is said that on full moon nights, the galloping of a horse can be heard and the figure of a beautiful brunette woman dressed in white can be seen atop the tower. This comes from a love dispute that supposedly took place at the end of the 17th century. A soldier fell in love with an indigenous woman who was also pursued by a cacique. During a chase, she and her suitor jumped into the sea on horseback, and the soldier was locked in the tower for the rest of his days, turned into a monk.
