1. Torreón del Monje

Anyone who has been to Mar del Plata has seen the iconic Torreón del Monje, and many have enjoyed coffee and croissants in its café. But beyond its dining services, the tower offers a beautiful panoramic view and the Mar de Cartas exhibit, which showcases part of Mar del Plata’s history with letters, postcards, and telegrams from immigrants and celebrities.
This place has a legend: it is said that on full moon nights, the galloping of a horse can be heard and the figure of a beautiful brunette woman dressed in white can be seen atop the tower. This comes from a love dispute that supposedly took place at the end of the 17th century. A soldier fell in love with an indigenous woman who was also pursued by a cacique. During a chase, she and her suitor jumped into the sea on horseback, and the soldier was locked in the tower for the rest of his days, turned into a monk.
Tip: The café is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm. The exhibit is open Wednesday to Sunday and on holidays from 10 am to 7 pm. Free admission.
