For years, Potrerillos was the destination of choice for those looking for a day in the mountains, a picnic by the dam or a getaway to enjoy some of Mendoza’s most photographed landscapes. Its scenic roads, the reservoir, the Cordon del Plata mountain range and the postcard-perfect views that fill Instagram have turned it into an almost obligatory stop for tourists and locals looking to reconnect with nature just a few kilometers from the city.

But something else has happened in recent years. Alongside the spectacular surroundings, a food scene has continued to grow. Today, Potrerillos offers much more than a great view: chef-driven restaurants, traditional mountain eateries, chocolate shops, cafés, craft breweries and outdoor experiences have transformed the area into one of Mendoza’s most interesting food destinations. This guide brings together 15 places to eat and drink where the landscape and the cuisine share the spotlight, with options for every taste and budget.

1. Chirivía: An outdoor feast among the mountains of Potrerillos

Getting to Chirivía is part of the experience. After winding through mountain roads and following the Potrerillos Dam, you reach this project created by chefs César and Benjamín Montes de Oca, father and son, who have transformed a corner of the Andes into one large communal table. Here, the cooking takes place outdoors, the landscape accompanies every step, and time seems to be measured by the arrival of the next course.

The menu changes with the seasons and is served in 10 courses, prepared with seasonal ingredients and outdoor cooking techniques. The chefs cook in full view, and each preparation is paired with a selection of Mendoza wines, including their own label developed together with Amuleto Wine Co. Dishes that often become favorites include rainbow trout, garlic prawns and the classic dulce de leche pancake to finish. The experience lasts between four and five hours and includes time to explore the surroundings or walk down to the edge of the reservoir before continuing with the next course.

The tip: Keep in mind that the experience takes place outdoors, so it is worth checking the weather and bringing warm clothing, a hat, sunscreen and anything else you may need to fully enjoy this unique experience.

The menu focuses on mountain cuisine, with dishes such as grilled beef tenderloin, ossobuco sorrentinos with mushroom sauce, meat cooked in pastry, pollock with rustic mashed potatoes and reimagined versions of classic desserts. But the hotel also invites visitors to simply stop for a coffee, with specialty coffee, artisanal pastries or an afternoon snack overlooking the reservoir, without needing to stay overnight.

Away from the pace of the city, it invites visitors to enjoy long lunches where lingering at the table is just as important as the main course.

The kitchen maintains the spirit of mountain bodegones centered around the fire, with a menu that changes according to the season. Generous portions, family-style service and a carefully selected range of Mendoza wines complete an experience that invites you to return again and again.

13. El Sultán Café: A journey to the East among the mountains of Potrerillos

In the picturesque Las Vegas area, an unassuming blue door leads to one of the most unique offerings in Mendoza’s mountains. El Sultán Café was founded in 2017 after its founders, Abdul Mayid and Aisha Duranti, traveled through Turkey and became familiar with the Sufi tradition, the mystical branch of Islam. That experience gave rise to a space where coffee is no longer simply a drink, but becomes a ritual of gathering, conversation and hospitality inspired by Ottoman culture.

The experience breaks away from the traditional café format: there is no menu to choose from. Instead, the owners guide visitors through a tasting experience, inviting them to discover specialty coffees prepared using different manual brewing methods, as well as traditional Ottoman coffee, known for its intense, silky body. The offering is completed with typical sweets such as baklava, halva and harise, along with artisanal pastries and savory options made with organic wheat breads.

The tip: More than a café, El Sultán offers a cultural experience. Its founders share with each visitor the stories, customs and rituals they encountered during their travels through Turkey, making every cup of coffee an invitation to discover another way of understanding hospitality and human connection.

Where: El Manantial 50, Las Vegas - Potrerillos, Mendoza.

One of the highlights is the burger with smoked provoleta, arugula, caramelized onions and bacon, ideal with a beer or a coffee and raspadita while the light changes over the reservoir.

15. Palto: The mountain deli that turns a charcuterie board into a plan

Some places prove that you don't need a restaurant to enjoy a great food experience. Palto was created with exactly that idea in mind: to become a mountain deli where a good selection of cheeses, artisanal salami, homemade bread and regional products is all you need to put together one of the best spontaneous lunches in Potrerillos.

The concept revolves around carefully selected premium cured meats and cheeses, which can be enjoyed on boards or in its handmade sandwiches. More than a deli, Palto brings back one of the nicest traditions of Mendoza’s mountains: buying good products, finding some shade or a rock overlooking the Andes and turning a simple charcuterie spread into an unforgettable lunch.

The tip: The star of the show is El Menduco, made with homemade bread, Colonia Caroya salami, Dutch cheese, olive tapenade, olive oil, tomato and oregano — a combination that has already become a classic among those traveling along the mountain route.

Where: RP82 km 1096, Potrerillos, Mendoza.
