The Cape Town Carnival returns to the city’s Green Point Fan Walk on March 16, 2024 in a colourful celebration of the cultural melting pot that makes the city such a cosmopolitan place to live, play and visit.

This year the theme is ‘Lekker’ – an Afrikaans phrase for ‘nice’, cool or ‘great’ – and the Carnival will see a wide range of floats and performance groups that reflect the many faces of the Mother City. The 2024 Carnival will feature 44 groups – more than 1400 performers – ranging from marching bands to dance crews in a colourfully riotous celebration of the Mother City’s multicultural make-up.

‘Everyone wanted a fun theme that represents who we are and what matters to us,’ said Cape Town Carnival CEO Jay Douwes. ‘And what matters to us is our diverse people, our rich culture, undeniable beauty and our knee-slapping sense of humour.’

The Cape Town Carnival is an open-air public event that takes place on the popular ‘Fan Walk’ along Somerset Road in Green Point, close to the V&A Waterfront, Sea Point and city centre.

Entrance to the event is free, with roadside standing areas open on a first-come-first-served basis.

Want to up your experience? A limited number of tickets in grandstand seating (R450) and VIP areas (R1950) are available via Quicket. The festivities take place from 3pm – 11.30pm.
