Summer in Cape Town wouldn't be quite the same without a little live music by the sea. And this December, local favourite Jeremy Loops is heading back to his home turf as Cape Open Air returns to Muizenberg Park on Saturday, 12 December 2026.

The annual outdoor concert has become something of a fixture on the Deep South's summer calendar, bringing together some of South Africa's best musical talent for an afternoon of sunshine, picnic blankets and live performances just a short stroll from Muizenberg Beach.

For Loops, who calls Muizenberg home, Cape Open Air is more than just another gig on the summer circuit.

“Cape Open Air has turned into this little gem of the Deep South. Every year it grows a little more, but it’s still got that local heart,” says Loops. “There’s nothing quite like getting to play a big show in Muizenberg, just above the ocean, surrounded by friends, family and familiar faces. It’s my home turf, and honestly one of my favourite shows of the year.”

Bongeziwe Mabandla joins the lineup

And there's already a big name on the bill. Joining Loops this year is acclaimed singer-songwriter Bongeziwe Mabandla.

Known for his soulful vocals and deeply personal songwriting, Bongeziwe Mabandla has built an international following with a distinctive sound that blends traditional African folk influences with contemporary soul and alternative music.

A three-time South African Music Award winner, Mabandla is also famous for his captivating live performances. And, as it turns out, he's been on the Cape Open Air wish list for quite some time.

“I've been a huge fan of Bongeziwe's music for years, and we've been trying to get him onto the Cape Open Air lineup for as long as I can remember,” says Loops. “He's one of those artists who has something really special – his voice, his songwriting, the way he connects with an audience. I'm genuinely so excited that we've finally managed to make it happen. I think it's going to be a beautiful addition to the day.”

More acts will be revealed ahead of December, with Loops once again set to headline the event.

Last year's festival featured the likes of Desmond and the Tutus, LUUKHANYO & The Hii Rollers, Giuliette Price and Manny Walters, so expect another proudly South African lineup.

How to get tickets for Cape Open Air 2026

Cape Open Air takes place at Muizenberg Park on Saturday, 12 December, with gates opening at noon and the music going until 8pm.

It's a family-friendly affair, and children under six get in for free. You're welcome to pack your own picnic, along with blankets and camping chairs, but outside alcohol and liquids aren't permitted. Free drinking water will be available, so bring an empty bottle to fill up.

With the park just a short walk from Muizenberg railway station, why not take the train? It’s a smart alternative to hunting for parking on a busy summer Saturday.
