Several weeks ago, Le Pickle co-owners Piet Aucamp and Trent Devine stood in what looked like the ruins of a building. It was the construction site of their Bree Street store.
Looking around them, bewildered, they said, “We were supposed to be selling burgers out of here from this month.” But fate has a way of playing tricks on you, and Trent learned that the hard way. The floor was beyond saving. They had to bring in engineers, get council approval and start from scratch.
July went from October. Bree Street was supposed to be the first Le Pickle location. It wasn’t. In the interim, the owners opened their Claremont shop in addition to their De Waterkant shop.
From humble beginnings
Le Pickle started in March 2025, born from four friends (Pieter Aucamp, Vincent Viviers, Trenton Devine, and Enrico Ferigolli), a lot of burger experimentation, and what appears to be a fairly serious commitment to the humble pickle.
The brand’s original home is at 8 Jarvis Street in De Waterkant, with a second location that opened in Claremont in July. Now it’s bringing the operation into the heart of the CBD.
Finally, the new Le Pickle lands at 215 Bree Street, in time for First Thursdays. with its official launch happening on Friday October 2.

The winning formula
The formula is straightforward: double smash patties, house-made buns, cheese, pickles and sauces. Everything is prepared fresh daily. Even the chips are hand-cut.
The menu includes the Le Classic, Le Onion with fried onions and garlic sauce, the mozzarella-topped Le Godfather, plus chicken, lamb and vegetarian options.
This isn’t the sort of burger that politely sits on a plate waiting to be photographed. These are messy, saucy, crispy-edged affairs designed to require several napkins and absolutely no dignity.

The Bree Street arrival also adds another late-lunch-to-evening option to a strip already packed with restaurants, bars and galleries.
With First Thursdays providing the opening-night soundtrack, there should be no shortage of hungry wanderers looking for something substantial between gallery hops.
Come this Thursday, all burgers are R99 from 12pm, and there’ll be Happy Hour drinks specials all day.
The Bree Street branch is currently listed as open Tuesday to Saturday from noon until 10pm, with Sunday service until 9pm. Mondays are for recovering from your burger decisions.
