While the rain beats down on Cape Town (will it ever stop? Who knows…) the chefs at Time Out Market Cape Town have rustled up a menu of tasty new winter plates to tempt us out the front door.
This week the Market will host a once-off public tasting event allowing diners to taste widely across the winter dishes. For just R395 per person, you’ll get to sample your choice of four plates from the winter menu. Take a friend, and you can turn it into an eight-plate tasting menu to share! For an extra hundred bucks (so just R495 per person) you can upgrade to include a tasting flight selected by Culture Wine Bar to pair with each plate.
And what’s on the menu?
Mlilo is serving up heart-warming winter potjies, available this winter in vegan and meaty options, while at Kapoochka you’ll find what is surely the most tender and tasty chicken on the planet in their incredible tandoori chicken tikka.
At The Melting Pot, chef John van Zyl - read our profile on John over here – will be dishing up bowls of fragrant Asian prawn laksa, and Bertus Basson at De Vrije Burger has channelled his favourite flavours into the ‘South African burger’ with double cheese and ‘monkey gland’ sauce and a side of loaded tjips. Of course, there’s also Giorgio Nava’s signature butternut and ricotta ravioli at Carne, and a melting-off-the-bone lamb shank at The Siba Deli. And let’s not forget the elevated ‘sushi shop’ experience at Sushiya, where the highlight this winter is the trio of new takes on their hugely popular temaki hand rolls. Then there’s the Dhal and Hake from Barakat, before ending off with the indulgent waffles from Unframed. You can see the full menu offering over here.
And once you’ve feasted, your ticket price includes entry to the hugely popular Comedy Night, hosted upstairs in the Time Out STUDIO.
It’s set to be a memorable night of fine food, wonderful wine and belly laughs, all perfectly priced for local pockets. Tickets are limited, so best you get booking fast.
