Great news for those who love a little silver-screen glamour beneath the southern skies. The Galileo Open-Air Cinema has launched its 12th season of open-air gatherings, which sees a slate of more than 100 movies – catering to families, romantics and action junkies alike – screened in the great outdoors until end-April 2024.

Each year the Galileo seems to grow, adding more venues to the long-running favourites, and 2023-24 season will see their giant screens pop-up at some of the most beautiful venues in the Cape.

Weekdays see the Galileo screenings hosted at the beautiful Kirstenbosch Garden, while selected Fridays light up Central Park in Century City. Saturday screenings alternate between selected wine estates including Leopards Leap (Franschhoek), Blaauwklippen (Stellenbosch), Nederburg (Paarl), Glenelly (Stellenbosch), and Lourensford (Somerset West). New wine estates for 2023/24 include Muratie outside Stellenbosch, and Zevenwacht on the outskirts of the Winelands.

You’ll find the full Galileo movie line-up over here, but expect everything from classics like 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Notting Hill' to the latest hip-shaking 'Elvis' biopic from Baz Luhrmann. Also look out for special themed screenings over the next few months: there's a Christmas Day screening of 'The Grinch' at Kirstenbosch Gardens or 'The Proposal' at Nooitgedacht Wine Estate, while kids will love 'Peter Rabbit' showing on Easter Weekend in Century City.

Tickets for the Galileo Open-Air Cinema cost from R140 per person, with the option to upgrade your ticket with front-row seating, chairs, blankets and snacks. Gates open at 6pm on weekdays, and 5pm for Saturday screenings, with the movie starting after sunset. Picnics can be brought to most screenings, but you’ll also find a variety of food stalls and bars on offer at each venue.

And, good news if you have a birthday coming up: you can claim a complimentary ticket during your birthday week. Seniors (60+) can enjoy a Pensioner Discount Ticket available every day, except select special screenings.
