Single in the City: Where to find love in Cape Town this October

Looking to be boo’d up this Halloween season? We’ve got you covered with all treats and no tricks!

Spooky season is here, but putting yourself out there, mingling and maybe even making a connection doesn’t have to be that scary (says the most single person you’ll ever meet).

To help ease those jitters – and because, let’s be honest, we’ve all heard awkward first-date stories – here are a few simple steps to help you feel safe and confident when meeting someone new:

  • Share your plans with someone you trust: Let a friend or family member know where you're going. Apps like Life360 or even sharing your live location on WhatsApp can offer added peace of mind. If you’re using Uber, don’t forget you can share your trip status, too.
  • Do a little homework: At Time Out, we take care to only recommend reputable venues and trusted events in and around Cape Town, especially in our dating guides. Still, it never hurts to do your own research. If something feels off, trust that instinct.
  • Bring a plus one: Most dating events are group-based with facilitators present, so you’re rarely left one-on-one. But if you’d feel more at ease attending with a friend, go for it. There’s no rule saying you have to fly solo.
  • Listen to your gut: If someone crosses a line or makes you uncomfortable, you don’t owe them your time. It’s okay to step away or end a conversation early.

But, without further ado, let's get out there and find love this October in the Mother City.

Where to find love in the Mother City

Over 40s Cocktail Night

Whoever said there’s a cut-off age for finding true love clearly missed the memo. They say life begins at 40 (I’ll have to take their word for it), and Thursday is making a strong case for it. They are hosting a laid-back cocktail evening at Our Local, Sea Point – a night designed for those who prefer real conversations over endless swiping, and good company over guesswork.

What to expect:

  • No planning, no pressure, show up and enjoy
  • Great cocktails, easy conversation
  • A welcoming space for men and women aged 40 and up

Event details:

  • Date: 16 October
  • Time: 7 pm to 10 pm (last entry at 9:15 pm)
  • Venue: Our Local, Sea Point
  • Age group: 40+
  • Price: R200-R250. Click here to book.
