Time Out says

While golf is very much an individual sport at its core, it seamlessly lends itself to having a great time with your mates - and that's exactly what Epic Golf provides all levels of golfers.

No bogeys here (well, a few, but that's due to the calibre of golfer I played with for this review).

What is Epic Golf?

Located in Diep River and open from Tuesday to Sunday, Epic Golf is a simulator centre featuring four rooms where individuals and groups can practice their game... or just have a laugh with mates. Each sim room allows golfers to test their skills using the Trackman system - the same software used by pros globally. All of your shots - using real clubs which you either bring along or hire at the venue - are analysed and constructive feedback is given on where you can improve.

Players have the choice of simply hitting the driving range or playing actual courses from around the world. I chose St Andrews - the Home of Golf - and it was a real blast being able to test my real-world swing on a course that very few ever get to play in the flesh.

There is also a putting green, kids' play area, work stations for those lucky enough to not be stuck in an office, and a fully-licensed restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner - as well as ice-cold beverages which help to loosen the swing.

The Vibe

I love my golf, so it is refreshing to see that there is now a venue in this area of Cape Town that ticks more than just one box when looking for a great golfing time out. The staff are all extremely helpful and it makes for a great experience when you don't need to leave the simulator room to eat or drink - everything is brought directly to you.

It also helps that Epic Golf is open until 10pm, which means you can plan an after-work session with your mates and have the inevitable hunger and thirst taken care of, all while relaxing on the 'golf course'.

For those looking to host a golf-themed event, Epic Golf also offers party packages for kids, corporates, birthdays, and even bachelor and bachelorette parties. If my session there is anything to go by, I reckon these would be a whole lot of fun.

Why Go?

It's just a really cool place to relax, hit some balls, and grab a bite to eat. It has a very chilled vibe, which lends itself to forgetting the world outside and truly embracing a fun few hours away from it all.

I was particularly impressed with the quality of each simulator room. While you may be stuck indoors, the bird sounds that play over the speakers and the crispness of the screen you hit into both made for an experience only bettered by being out on an actual golf course.

The food is really tasty, with a varied menu that caters to all tastes. I decided to go the finger food route for the group I was with. The wings and nachos were really good, while the poppers put an extra zing into some of the swings. While I haven't had the chance to yet, I have been told that they make a mean breakfast, so that's the next item on the to-do list when I need some practice with a driver in hand.

My only gripe is that no beers were available on tap. Hopefully, that will come in time. Actually, I lie, my other gripe is the way I played, but that's very much on me.

Time Out Tip

Book in advance. Epic Golf has become extremely popular and every simulator room was full when I went there on a Tuesday night - so best you plan in advance by booking here.
