Schubas Tavern

Bars, Pubs Lake View
5 out of 5 stars
(3user reviews)

Emblazoned with a Schlitz Brewery emblem that designates the historic building as a former tied house, this small club books smaller indie touring acts and local bands, leaning toward the acoustic singer-songwriter end of the spectrum. You can hang out in the front bar area without paying cover, or pay a few bucks to enter the small music room at the back of the venue. Next door, the forthcoming Tied House brewpub will serve craft beer, Midwestern cuisine and Schuba's famous mac and cheese.

such a great venue. comfortable and affordable, one of my absolute favorite spots to see music in Chicago.

Simply sitting at the bar at Schuba's is a good time. While the concert schedule is varied and you can almost always find a show you want to see coming up in a month, it's also just a really comfortable, laid-back place to spend time and have a beer and a light snack before heading elsewhere in the neighborhood.

Oh, Schubas. Despite the fact the owner recently sold this Chicago icon to the people who run Lincoln Hall, not much has changed. I almost like the bar at Schubas more than I like the place as a concert venue. The quality of the music varies wildly. You could stop in one night and see a show that's downright awful and another that is the best you've seen all year—it's all a part of the Schubas aesthetic.
