The Cleveland Institute of Art says
African American Works on Paper brings together a robust collection of artworks from such luminaries as CIA’s Hughie Lee Smith, Charles Sallee, and William Smith, along with legends of African American art, including Selma Burke, Al Loving, Jack Whitten, Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Catlett, and Sam Gilliam.

At the core of this show are 20th century works from the collection of Wesley and Missy Cochran, as well as art from CIA’s own Study Collection, by artists including Curlee Raven Holton, Dexter Davis and others.

A gallery talk will begin at 7pm, followed by a free, public opening reception at 7:30pm on Friday, March 31. The exhibition runs through May 13.

Reinberger Gallery programming is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
